July 2 – Our community experienced its first death. Sister Mary Elizabeth Weber, who taught at Visitation School in Tacoma and directed the boys’ choir there, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The community had to make a quick decision on where to place the cemetery.
July 11 – Sisters Lucy Wynkoop and Sharon McDonald made final profession. This is the first time the new Rite of Profession was used, without the pall which was no longer being used.
Sister Lydia (Mary) Walczewski earned her practical nursing degree and began work at St. Peter’s Hospital, Olympia. This was a new ministry for the Sisters.
