1926 – Divine Office Restored to Benedictine Women in U.S.
Since shortly after their arrival to the United States, Benedictine women had been denied the right to chant the Divine Office as bishops and abbots felt this took time away from teaching. Finally, the right of the Sisters to chant the full Divine Office was restored. Musicians and liturgists begin working with the Sisters to properly celebrate the Offices.
Our new blog is active as of May 5, 2023. Sisters will post once a week on Fridays. See what our Sisters have to say about living Monastic Life in the 21st Century.
