FOR THIS WE GIVE THANKS!
Fall 2008
In April we received this request from Herman Nickel: “In your April newsletter you said, ‘Please plant a tree.’ I would like to have one planted in memory of my beloved wife Cecilia. On June 20th will be the 7th year since she went home. Please pick out a tree that in your wisdom would be suitable for your garden.” This fall a maple tree will be purchased and planted with Mr. Nickel’s donation. We give thanks for this addition to our landscape. We give thanks for Herman Nickel’s lasting love memorial. We believe in the communion of saints. There exists a spiritual con-nection between all the people of God, both the living and the dead. Thus, we pray that the deceased and deceased family members with whom we have worshipped will together intercede with God for us:
+ Shannon Armstrong and Mollie Linden’s father Robert Linden+ Charlene Hunt’s sister Chris Bush
+ Jolene Laber Russell’s (SPHS Class of ‘76) husband David Russell
May our long-time, dear and recently deceased friends—
+ Elizabeth Schilter+ Fannie DeVoe
+ Joan Pell
—continue to watch over us with their generous and caring hearts. We give thanks for their presence in our lives.
We also give thanks for the affirmation received from Shonna Bartlett who brought a group of the Gonzaga Ministry Institute participants here to find time to breathe and rejuvenate. Shonna enthusiastically says, “There is nothing like the power of prayer, the embrace of community and a walk in the woods to remind us of the constant, loving presence of our God.” Like many others they are grateful for the haven they found here!
To each of you with whom we are connected and in communion—we give thanks, daily!
How You Can Help
+ Volunteers needed to staff The Priory Store weekdays Noon to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please contact Sister Sharon McDonald at 360-438-1771 if you can help!+ The Tanzanian Sisters have an opportunity in early December to sell aprons which they have made. The sale will be part of St. Michael’s Fair Trade Holiday Sale the first weekend of Advent. Please send them any fabric you have to contribute. Their aprons are always available in St. Placid’s lobby; however, this Advent Sale is a big event for Sister Anamaria and Sister Redempta and their community ministries in East Africa.
+ Sister Redemista Ngonyani, OSB spent several years with us attending St. Martin’s studying for her Bachelor’s degree, then went to the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium for her Master’s in Canon Law. She returned to St. Agnes, Chipole and has been caught up in the busy life of her community. Now she’s back to school at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, studying for her Ph.D. in Canon Law. She says in her email, “Thank you for opening the door to this path. Greetings to all and I ask you to pray for me.” We’ll certainly pray for Sister, and we invite you to keep her in your prayers!
+ “See how my eyes brightened when I tasted a little of this honey.” (1 Samuel 14:29) In spite of the national and local Bee colony collapse syndrome, we do have the finest natural honey for you to purchase. You’ll find a supply in the Priory lobby. We appreciate your support of our ministry to the Tanzanian Sisters through the sale of this honey. Thanks also to the generous donor who nurtures his beehives well and supplies this honey for our health and well-being. “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” (Proverbs 16:24)
May you experience with us the deep satisfaction and joy
that comes from sharing and from serving others!
To contact Sister Sharon, you may write to her at 500 College St NE, Lacey WA 98516; call her at 360-438-1771; or .
